andLinux, password problem

Postby andrewianfox33 » Sun Apr 06, 2008 2:01 pm

after installation i tried to run it but forgot password

then i uninstalled deleted the directory, reinstalled and still couldnt start it as the old password is still hanging about somewhere,
i deduce this as i wasnt asked for a password entry on the new install

so where is the little bugger hiding so i can either read it, or delete it it
i have deleted all new files in windows system and system32 that could have arisen in the installation

i dont wan to format and reinstall everything............... :( :( :(

anyone have any ideas what to look for?

cheers andrew

Welcome to the forums Andrew. I hope you find us useful.

I have to say though I'm a bit confused by your post... Have you installed Windows and forgotten the password? Or have you installed Linux and forgotten your password? If it's Linux you installed which version is it (Ubuntu, Fedora, Mepis, Suse etc)?

If it's windows then I'm not sure we'll be much help since this is, after all, a Linux group. ;)

andLinux problem

Postby andrewianfox33 » Tue Apr 08, 2008 7:36 pm

there is a version of Linux, called andLinux

i have "good" and working install of Win XP, i dont use passwords on it

i have installed andlinux which runs within windows

on install it sets a password which i have forgotten

on several uninstalls and reinstalls it doesnt ask for new passwords as i presume it still has the original forgotten password
hidden away somewhere

i wish to find and delete this persistent password and do another install where i will write down the new password i set
and attach it to the monitor on a postit

am i any clearer there?

Yes, although this is the first time I've ever come across andLinux (see you've taught us something already and you've only posted twice. ;) )

I'll do some digging. Stay tuned.

Maybe it does things in a rather oddball way and uses the Windows registry?

Would certainly explain it, otherwise installing a hidden file in the root of the C: drive or in the windows directory sounds likely.
I thought of a witty and funny singature, but I forgot what it was...

Yes that does sound likely. It most probably installed something in the registry. If I remember that's where Windows stores passwords. If I remember correctly it will be stored in one of the hives. Be careful poking around in the registry. Make sure that you backup your data.

Hmm, rather annoyingly I can't get andLinux to install on my Win2k box which is really annoying considering that it's virtually a vanilla install with SP2.

I keep getting an error that says:

Error opening application:sc file not found.

Anyone, anyone?
